Gorove/Slade Associates, Inc. is the transportation planning consultant to the Master Planning Team for the National Institutes of Health. The NIH Bethesda Campus is a 320 acre site, and is the current home for the 21 research institutes which presently employ over 16,000 persons. The master planning effort developed plans for growth at this campus to approximately 18,000 employees over the next 20 years. The Poolesville facility is a rural site of approximately 350 acres which is planned for modest growth. Gorove/Slade Associates was responsible for physical planning and preliminary engineering of the transportation of elements of the infrastructure of both campuses, traffic impact assessments of the planned growth, and the development of a transportation management plan to mitigate the effects of those impacts. Gorove/Slade continues to work with the NIH administration on the implementation of the Master Plan. This current work involves coordinating temporary roadway and parking plans as construction takes place, and implementing and monitoring transportation demand management measures.
